Burnley are to complete a transfer to sign Maxime Esteve from Montpellier in a deal worth around £10 million, as Clarets’ boss Vincent Kompany seeks to bolster his defence before the end of the January transfer window. Esteve has been with Montpellier since 9-years-old, and has appeared in 58 Ligue 1 games.
Burnley had been looking for a new centre-back and the club’s scouts have been impressed with what they have seen of the French under-21 international. Burnley know that the club need to sign new players if they are to survive for another season in the Premier League, and the arrival of Esteve is a major coup considering Borussia Dortmund were amongst his potential suitors. The left-footed centre-back has also caught the eye of several Serie A sides, but Burnley are in pole position.
Esteve has been touted as one of the best young players in Ligue 1 in recent season.
21-year-old Esteve is going to be offered a five-year-contract at Burnley, and will earn around £70,000 a week on the terms of his new deal.
