Out of favour centre-back Raphael Varane could be on his way out of Old Trafford, as Ligue 1 side Marseille prepare a January transfer swoop for the France international. Varane has been told by manager Erik Ten Hag that he will be allowed to leave Old Trafford, according to reports.
Varane has recently lost his place to Harry Maguire, who has seen a recent return to form after Ten Hag placed trust in the England international centre-back. However, Varane is desperately unhappy in England and wants to play on a regular basis to guarantee a starting berth at next summer’s Euro 2024 tournament in his home country of France.
It is understood that United would accept a fee of around £20 million to sell Varane, and the club are even open to a loan deal.
In recent weeks, Luke Shaw has been deployed as a centre-back, seeing Varane slip even further down the pecking order at the club.
Maguire has been informed that he is unlikely to lose his place in the club’s starting XI, as long as he can keep up the good recent form.
